They brought with them the skill to hammer raw gold into sheets and, cutting them into thin strips and smoothing the edges, make 24 carat gold wire. This method was used to create woven gold decorations on sarcophagi, and then in the creation of royal jewelry. In fact, this method was used in a myriad of applications for battle garb and other items to the present day. Now days, we don’t have to cut our own wire. We also have a great choice of sizes and shapes of wire to use in our creations. I work in gold, silver, and copper wire and use a variety of precious and semiprecious gemstones. Silver clay is a new medium, created in Japan. It’s similar in consistency to modeling clay for children. But when you create a piece, dry it, and heat it with kiln or torch, you have a beautiful item of jewelry in .992 to .995 silver. Although Christmas purchases depleted inventory, new pieces are being created now and will be available very soon right here!
